About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Union Berlin and 1. FC Köln played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, 2 May 2026. The match, part of Gameweek 32, saw both teams share the spoils in a game that had its fair share of drama and late goals. The game began with 1. FC Köln taking the lead in the 33rd minute through Marius Bülter (GAP -0.4%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Union Berlin. The visitors doubled their advantage in the 61st minute when Said El Mala (GAP +0.7%) found the back of the net, putting Köln in a commanding position. However, Union Berlin mounted a spirited comeback. Tom Rothe (GAP -2.5%) pulled one back for the home side in the 73rd minute, setting up a tense finale. The equalizer came in the 89th minute from substitute Livan Burcu, who made an immediate impact off the bench. Tactically, Union Berlin's manager made five changes during the match, bringing on Alex Král, Tim Skarke, Christopher Trimmel, Livan Burcu, and Andrej Ilić. These substitutions were pivotal, especially Burcu's introduction, which added fresh impetus to their attack. On the other hand, 1. FC Köln's head coach opted for three changes, introducing Jan Thielmann, Linton Maina, and Joël Schmied to try and maintain their lead. In terms of individual performances, Diogo Leite (GAP +1.2%) stood out for Union Berlin, contributing significantly to their defensive efforts despite the two goals conceded. For Köln, Marvin Schwabe (GAP -0.2%) had a mixed outing, making crucial saves but unable to prevent the late equalizer. This result leaves Union Berlin and 1. FC Köln both reflecting on missed opportunities. Union Berlin, who have been inconsistent in recent weeks, will see this as a valuable point in their quest to climb the Bundesliga table. Meanwhile, Köln will rue their inability to hold onto a two-goal lead, which could have significantly boosted their position. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of Union Berlin, with fans praising their team's fighting spirit. The draw keeps both teams in the mid-table battle, with only a few games left to secure a strong finish to the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
